2006 District Championships
Our District Closed
Championships will this year be held on Sunday 6/8/06 also at the Suns
venue in Thornleigh. This is a prestigious event with singles and doubles in
each grade.
It is a whole day event,
commencing at 9 am and entry forms will be issued in the near future. Please mark this day in your diary.
As the event also coincides
with Centenary Celebrations, this time the Hornsby Shire Council, we hope to be
able to promote these championships via the local press as well.
Top 5 challenge
Your committee is introducing
this year a new invitational event at the end of the Autumn Interclub
competition called the “Top 5 Challenge”. This challenge will be played for
each division i.e. A, AR, B (Division 2) & C (Division 3).
The 5 players with the highest
percentage of wins ( minimum 12 rubbers played) at the end of the competition
(not including finals), will be invited to play a Round-Robin to decide who is
the best player in the Northern Districts competition. If a player is not
available, the next best in percentage wins will be invited.
The A grade “Top 5 Challenge”
date has been set for Sunday 30/7/06 at the Manly Vale Lovett Hall,
corner Lovett & Condamine Streets, between 2 and 5 pm.
This event will coincide with
the Warringah Council’s Centenary celebrations and a special commemorative
medal has been struck and will be presented to the winner.
We will also use this event
to promote table tennis via the local press.
The “Top 5 Challenges” for
the other divisions will be played at the Suns venue in Thornleigh on Friday
28/7/06 from 8pm.
Invitations will be sent at
the end of the competition and, if proven popular, we will endeavour to make
this an annual event and provide perpetual trophies for each division.
Your committee
has accepted in principle the following process to take place after the end of
the Autumn interclub event so that the 2006 Spring interclub will be affected
by the results from the Autumn competition.
Due to the large number of teams wishing to play at a higher
level, and the limit in playing weeks, there shall be a policy of promotion and
relegation. At the completion of the Autumn round robin competition, the bottom
team in Divisions 1 and AR shall be automatically relegated to the Division
below. The top team in Divisions AR and 2 at the end of the round robin
competition shall automatically be promoted to the Division above. The second
top team in Divisions AR and 2 shall have the option of challenging the
second bottom team in Divisions 1 and AR respectively should they wish to be
promoted in the next competition. The winner of the challenge playoff shall be
promoted to the higher Division and the loser relegated. The lower Division
team shall have the choice of venue. The playoff must be completed within 3
weeks after the end of the Autumn interclub competition.
