In the interests of avoiding deferred matches, the Committee are to trial in Division 1 only, of the 2008 Spring interclub competition, the use of Stand-by Players.
The concept is that a player of any grade (note an A graded player may put themselves down as a stand-by player but they must not be a nominated regular member of a Division 1 team) may put their name on a stand-by list which will be available to all Division 1 team captains (and published on our website). Names on this list will show those players who may be available to play often at short notice, AND are prepared to play for another team even if this team belongs with another club (and could be against their own club!). The situation causing the use of a Stand-by player is where a Division 1 team cannot raise enough players from within its own ranks and who would otherwise have to defer or forfeit the match. In these circumstances the captain of the Division 1 team will contact players on the Stand-By list (by phone) to see whether a player can be co-opted to play just for that match. Deferred matches will only be allowed if the division 1 team has tried to obtain at least three standby players and been unsuccessful.
Note that a regular nominated player in a team must play in preference to any stand-by player in any match, but a stand-by player may be used in the semis or finals of the competition, provided that player has played during the round robin part of the competition, in three matches (i.e. six singles) for the requesting division team. Stand-by Players must be registered members of SNDTTA, and be registered with TTNSW.
The entry form for the 2008 Spring interclub will have a column headed SP (or a separate row in Division 1) which can be ticked/entered where a player is prepared to be put on this Stand-by Player list.
